“It appeals with its determination to maintain the quality of the food. It appeals with the intelligence of its menu making. And it appeals with its prices too.”

Matthew Fort, The Guardian Magazine

“Six of the best…..” Spicing is one of the things that differentiates the cooking of Morocco from that of its neighbours. Azou Benarab, at his restaurant notes the broadly French influence on Algeria, the Italian on Tunisia, an the Spanish on Morocco (more saffron here, for example).
The preparation & consistency of couscous also differs from one country to another.

Jay Rayner, The Observer Magazine

“How welcome such a restaurant is, and how welcoming.”

Jonathon Meads - The Times Magazine

“The kitchen knows its business and the tagines and couscous are presented with some panache”

“….The King Street restaurant strip is a competitive place… but Azou has gone from strength to strength and is now well established.”

Charles Campion – Evening Standard

“..serving good North African dishes – well made tagines, grills and couscous. The combination of candlelight, friendly service and low-level tables creates a beguiling atmosphere.”

"Everything about Azou was wonderful, from the friendly, attentive service right through to the unhurried atmosphere and reasonable prices. And of course the food speaks for itself. If it sounds like I’m enthusing – I am."

The interior is attractively decorated in classic North African furnishings and ornaments, creating an authentic and laid back feel.  We visited on a busy Saturday evening and there was also a really friendly vibe to the place, almost like everyone in the restaurant knew each other.  The food was the real star though, being cooked with real care and pride by the restaurant’s chef/owner Chris Benarab.

This small family-run restaurant is everything a good restaurant should be. The service is great, the food is superb and the atmosphere is un-pretentious and welcoming.

“Amazing food, with a personal touch.” Reviewed 9 May 2012 via mobile Heard and read favourable reviews for Azou and for once the experience met expectations! The waiting staff were polite and non-intrusive, allowing us as to chat and order at our leisure. Highly recommended.

Azou, on King Street in Hammersmith, is a small, atmospheric and charmingly decorated Moroccan restaurant, that I have frequented several times.
Earlier this week I popped over the road with my two friends, and started with some olives and humous.  The humous was silky and flavoursome, unlike the often stodgy supermarket stuff.  It had the perfect oil to chickpea to lemon ratio and its only flaw was the lack of garlic.
For mains, one of my friends had the Tajine Romanne (she loves a tajine) which consisted of chicken cooked in pomegranates, almonds, raisins and caramelised onions.  It was sweet and delicious.  I had lamb shank couscous; extremely tender lamb in a delicious vegetable laden couscous, which the waitress poured a deeply savoury broth over.  My other friend opted for the mixed grill which contained lamb, chicken and merguez (Moroccan sausages).  All three dishes complemented each other perfectly.
This is Moroccan food at its best.

Locale caratteristico, piccolo ma curato. Ottimo cibo, cous cous e tajine, giusti i prezzi
A characteristic, small but well-kept. Great food, couscous and tajine, fair prices.

Our second visit to Azou was as great as the first. Fantastic service to accompany the food perfectly. Give it a try but you'll have a hard choice what to go for!

I have wanted to dine at Azou for some time now, finally doing so on 21/2/14. I only wished we visited this excellent restaurant sooner. I was not disappointed. We thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. Every dish was just superb. So much flavour and beautifully cooked, excellent cuisine. The staff are very obliging, attentive and all added to the great atmosphere. Chris the chef & owner obviously cares a great deal about the food he serves and the experience his customers have. We will definitely be back soon, this time with friends, so they can enjoy a wonderful experience too. Thanks Azou - Steve & Sheila (Epsom, Surrey)

Thank you for your warm welcome & marvelous meal.  From the humous (much better than mine) to the Constantine tajine, it was a sheer delight.  Merci.

Visited Azou in January and celebrated the most fabulous birthday there. The food was divine and the service was incredible. We shared a feast of starters and main dishes, and very pleased we did - there's no way I could choose a single dish, they were all amazing! Definitely try a cous cous dish to mix in with a tagine, and the brik is not to be missed! We will absolutely be back! Thanks Azou

I brought my brother and his girlfriend to Azou because I knew we would get great food and great service, and we were certainly not disappointed. I have been to Azou several times and you can always be sure to get food of top quality.

We had an excellent meal at Azou in Hammersmith. The food was great and the service was very good. Lovely place to spend an evening. A welcome return visit to AZOU for me. I wanted my wife to see how good it is. Both agreed we'll go again. We went on a cold Tuesday evening but got a warm welcome. We shared some starters, of which the spicy prawns were especially enjoyed. I then had grilled lamb, which was succulent & tasty. My wife had a fish tagine, which was full of flavour (& fish!) Our friend had one of the lamb shank tagines which was tender and which he enjoyed. Service was helpful & timely but not pushy. Back soon!

have eaten at Azou many times and it never fails to impress me with the quality and quantity of its food and with the superb service that is always provided. The ambiance is very relaxing and contributes to a really lovely dining and socialising experience. I have been a guest as a member of a team meal where there were 12 of us and as a member of a party of 2 and both of these types of experiences have been equally satisfying. It's one place I never hesitate to recommend!

I would just like to say we were very impressed!
Both my wife and I could honestly say those were the best Lamb Shanks we had every tasted! Starters of Hummus, Calamari and Sardines were also cooked to perfection and full of favour! We found this to be a very personal restaurant with friendly and helpful staff and a very talented chef !! Will recommend Azou to others and will hope to be returning again soon. Many thanks for a great night with fantastic food
